From iOS 11 onwards, iPhones save images in HEIC file type by standard. HEIC — High Efficiency Image Container — is technically impressive: it produces images with roughly half the storage of similar JPEGs maintaining high photo quality. However there is a major catch. HEIC is an Apple-centric file type not broadly compatible outside the App
